How I would have loved to have had a floristry mentor in my pocket during those early days when I set up my wedding and event floristry business. Looking back with fond memories from my graduation ceremony. I achieved a First Class BA Hons in Floral Design and Event Management. Wanting to follow in my Dads entrepreneurial footsteps (he had always worked for himself). I was keen to start up my own floristry business straight away. I was so unbelievably excited to embark on my new career path.
After spending a number of years trying to figure out what it was I wanted to do with my life. I had finally discovered my passion in life and couldn’t wait to get started! Although along with the anticipation I also felt quite overwhelmed! Where do I even begin with starting up my own floristry business? During the time on my course I was lucky to have had lots of hands on practical work experience whilst studying for my degree. All of the event jobs that the Covent Garden Academy of Flowers did all of us students would have the opportunity to work on as well so I was really fortunate. However when it came to the business side of floristry I really had no clue! I threw myself in at the deep end when I landed my first ever wedding job shortly after completing my degree.
Clutching my university portfolio I couldn’t quite believe it when the bride to be said she wanted to book me! I felt like all my Christmases had come at once! My first ever wedding was at the stunning Fulham Palace in West London and I learnt A LOT straight away! I will be honest I inevitably made quite a few mistakes. Especially in those early years, although apparently this is the best way to learn which I would tend to agree. That being said though, to have had guided support a long the way would have been invaluable and saved me a lot of time, energy and money!

From overwhelmed to focused and self-assured
Thinking back to that newbie florist clutching her university portfolio was the driving force behind me creating my Digital Masterclass. My main goal is to assist new and relatively new florists who are keen to embark on a career in event floristry but don’t quite know where to begin? I want to help guide you through all the key elements step by step. Taking you from unsure and overwhelmed, to focused and self-assured.
Learning all the floristry techniques whilst on my course was invaluable. However executing these designs in a real event environment, is very different. It is where the business learning really starts to begin in my opinion. During your course you usually make one of each particular arrangement. What happens then when you are creating florals for an event and you are making multiple centre pieces? What flower quantities do you need? How do you price and cost your flowers for a particular wedding? Like I mentioned it can feel like a lot at the beginning but it is totally doable and you have got this! You might just need a little helping hand to guide you along the way and that’s where you can think of me as being a floristry mentor in your pocket.

WHat does the digital Masterclass include?
How to start your Own Wedding and Event Floristry Business is a self led guide that you can work through at your own pace. I created the masterclass in a digital style format for this very reason so it fits around whatever other commitments you have going on in your life. The delivery and collection cost calculator alone has been invaluable for me. When working out the installation and collection costs for each of my events. There was no educational resource like this available when I first started out but I so wish there had been! I have learnt a lot over the last 13 years and I have poured my heart and soul into creating this resource for new florists. I feel like it is my way of giving back and passing on my built up knowledge. To know I am helping others to feel supported and confident on their floral business journey brings me great joy too.

Here is what people who have purchased the Digital Masterclass have to say about it…
“After listening to Joanne on a couple of flower podcasts, I knew she was genuinely passionate about helping others pursue a career in flowers. Joanne’s authenticity and friendly charm was a breath of fresh air and when I discovered her Digital Masterclass I didn’t hesitate to purchase it. The Masterclass is a great tool and one that I dip in and out of for various things. It covers the really useful business areas of wedding floristry and feels like having a mentor in your pocket. It even gave me the confidence to organise and host my first styled shoot, which was a huge success. Thank you Joanne!”
“Joanne has created such a helpful and informative course which is really helping me with starting my business! I’d recommend it to anyone else who is feeling overwhelmed with starting their journey in wedding floristry as it focuses a lot on setting achievable goals and how to really make progress towards them. When I was searching for a course more tailored towards the business side of wedding floristry, there weren’t many that appealed to me but finding Joanne’s has been such a good investment and I’m so glad I have this to help me now – thank you so much Joanne!”
