Alan & Michaela’s Winter Wonderland Inspired Wedding at the Beautiful Selsdon Park Hotel…

In today’s post I am sharing with you some of my tips on how to start your own wedding and event floristry business. Starting with the first fundemental question you need to ask yourself.

Happy New Year! We’re spending January recharging our batteries after a busy December and thinking of the year ahead, 2013 looks to be an exciting one for Joanne Truby Floral Design with some exciting projects already in the pipe line, watch this space!

Back to today … and on the blog we have one of our real weddings from November last year. Alan and Michaela were married on 4th November 2012 at the beautiful Selsdon Park Hotel in Surrey. A beautiful country mansion set in 200 acres of Surrey countryside and a very popular venue choice for many couples getting married (I think from the photo you can see why). The pair met through a mutual friend nearly seven years ago and now have two gorgeous children, Sunny who was their page-boy and Ameilie was their flower girl, along with their niece and god daughter.

Michaela’s favourite colour has always been navy blue and so decided that she wanted to incorporate it into their special day, teaming it with greys, silvers and some ‘bling’! The wedding was inspired by  a winter wonderland theme with a glitzy twist which was very fitting for the time of year they had chosen to get married. When I met Michaela for her wedding consultation she had so much enthusiasm and knew what she liked which was great! She wanted a simple yet elegant design for her bridal bouquet and had fallen in love with calla lilies. I remember her saying ‘to me they just look so classy’ and with their trumpet like shape, I would have to agree they really are such elegant flowers!

Michaela’s bridal bouquet was made up of white crystal blush calla lilies finished with navy satin ribbon that was fastened with pretty pearl pins. Added amongst the stems were small clusters of diamantes (not to many though as I wanted the natural beauty of the flowers to stand out) and to finish the bouquet we sourced a diamante bracelet that was added to the top of the ribbon as a diamante band.

The bridesmaids looked lovely in navy blue dresses and carried a smaller version of Michaela’s bouquet, which had  a silver satin ribbon to compliment their dresses and match the silver fur wraps (which I just love!). The button holes consisted of one single white Calla Lily and a hint of dusty miller foliage with its silvery soft texture being perfect to capture that wintry feel. Each button hole was finished with navy satin ribbon that had a silver trim which matched the colour theme perfectly and of course Alan and Sunny’s had to have some ‘bling’ to match Michaela’s bouquet.

The winter wonderland inspired design for the top table was made up of white avalanche roses, white calla lilies, white bouvardia, silver brunia, eucalyptus, pittosporum and for the finishing touch white glittery twisted willow.
