The Power of the British Flower

In today’s post I am sharing with you some of my tips on how to start your own wedding and event floristry business. Starting with the first fundemental question you need to ask yourself.

As its British Flowers week, on the blog today I thought we would re-visit a post from last year of a super pretty pastel shoot we collaborated with Corette Faux Photography on, showcasing the gorgeous varieties of British flowers currently available during the summer season.

The mint green candle stick (which I absolutely love) and ceramic swan are our most recent prop purchases and were crying out for some pretty petals! We teamed up with the talented Corette Faux Photography to collaborate on a mini shoot.

The designs I created for the shoot were made up of sumptuous pale pink Sarah Bernhardt peonies, white statice, powder blue Scabious, blue Brodiaea and Sweet William. All grown in Cornwall by our wonderful supplier Flowers by Clowance

So why use British flowers? Well did you know that a whopping 90% of all flowers purchased in the UK are imported? The majority of flowers found on the high street are imported from Kenya, The Netherlands and Colombia. Which seems such an awful shame when there is such a vast array of flower varieties available from British flower growers. Some of which include; Sweet Peas, Alliums, Cosmos, Cornflowers, Sweet William, Peonies, Delphiniums, Roses, Lurpins, Iris, Gladioli and Dahlias.

Corette and I had a fun afternoon styling this shoot, she too had lots of fab props that complimented the pastel colour scheme perfectly. I won’t waffle on any longer I shall let the images speak for themselves….

We wrapped vintage print style paper around clear bottles with flowers in, a simple DIY idea you could try yourself, cute don’t you think?
