2015, the best of Joanne Truby Floral Design

In today’s post I am sharing with you some of my tips on how to start your own wedding and event floristry business. Starting with the first fundemental question you need to ask yourself.

How was your Christmas? I hope you had a fab one. Mine was lovely, very relaxed and great to spend time with the family. I am just starting to come round from my food induced coma (I have eaten wayyy to much over the last few days!) I have spent the last couple of days decluttering our home ready for the new year which has got me reflecting over the last year and it felt only right to pay tribute by sharing with you 2015, the best of Joanne Truby Floral Design.

Weddings

Where to begin? What an AMAZING year it has been, our busiest to date! We have had the pleasure of working with our wonderful couples, flowering their utterly gorgeous weddings. Working at an array of different venues through out Kent, London, Surrey, Essex and Sussex including; Botley’s Mansion, Great Fosters, The Ferry House Inn, The Orangery, The Bell in Ticehurst, St Clere Estate and Addington Palace to name just a few. A huge highlight was working at the renowned Kensington Roof Gardens, somewhere I had only hoped even dared to dream I might flower one day! A definite pinch myself moment for sure!

Flowers

This year has seen the creation of bridal bouquets, bridesmaids bouquets, button holes, urns, arches, garlands, chair arrangements, cake flowers, centre pieces, table scapes, candelabra’s, wedding signage, flower crowns, foliage back drops, hanging flowers and flower chandeliers and that’s just scraping the surface! We mastered a very tricky florist technique too, a bridal shower bouquet made using NO oasis just wiring, something I am rather proud of!

Just the tip of the iceberg! I’m often far to hard on myself at times (I am my harshest critic) but looking back over these images fondly with a big smile on my face and the realisation of just how much we have achieved this year!

Shoots and Events

Earlier in the year we were part of the Glam Industrial meets Botanical inspiration shoot collaborating with a team of incredibly talented suppliers which was featured on Rock my Wedding here. Where created our modern style arch from copper piping a design which I adore and it went down a storm! We also created the flowers for the House of Elliot re-brand shoot but I shan’t tell you to much about that just yet as it is due to be featured soon, watch this space! As well as our natural organic shoot which gained us our first international feature, as the shoot was featured on USA blog Classic Bride. Along with our weddings we also had the privilege of working on two events this year; a cooking awards gala held at the Camden Round House and the other a 21st Birthday Party hosted at the Sky Loft in London.

Press

This year Joanne Truby Floral Design have been featured in numerous wedding and life style magazines during 2015 including; You and Your Wedding, Wedding Ideas, Wedding Flowers & Accessories, Wedding, Perfect Wedding Magazine, Wilden Times, Chislehurst Life and Meridian. A highlight for sure being featured on the front cover of Perfect Wedding Magazine four consecutive months in a row, how frigging awesome is that!! Blog features included; Rock and Roll Bride (twice) Love My Dress, Rock My Wedding, So You’re Getting Married, Secret Wedding Blog, B.loved, Rock My Style and our first international feature over on USA blog Classic Bride.

National Wedding Awards

The icing on top of the 2015 cake had to be being shortlisted for the National Wedding Awards which was a huge privilege especially when being in a category among such other talented florists too. I was blown away by the feedback given by our couples who scored us above 9.8 on average with a 10 for the quality of flowers. I honestly don’t think I could have asked for any more, truly incredible.

The New Year

So what does 2016 have in store? I for one can’t wait to embrace next year & all the exciting times ahead we already have some gorgeous weddings booked in at venues I have been dying to work at for some time (including Preston Court and Northbrook Park). It’s a HUGE year for me on a personal level as Steve and I are getting married in March (I know less then 3 months to go!!) I shall be doing  a separate blog post on that sharing my own personal planning journey so keep an eye out for that. Along with our wedding we have our epic honeymoon adventure to look forward to as well (we are off to Thailand). During 2016 we will also be celebrating Joanne Truby Floral Designs 4th Birthday so it is going to be a pretty special year! Of course there will be oddles of flowers and we hope you will come jump with us down the rabbit hole!  Thank you so much to all our couples for allowing us to be part of their special day, my amazing team of girls (Ami, Sarah, Robin and Lisa thanks just doesn’t seem like a big enough word, I simply couldn’t do it without you!) Thank you to all our industry friends and suppliers for allowing us to work with you, what can sometimes be a lonely place to work is made a hell of a lot easier with you guys. Last but not least thank you to my Steve yet again you have been my rock this year, I’m so lucky to have you & I can’t wait to be your wife! I shall leave you with these wise words from Neil Gaiman…

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year!
