Supplier Spot Light: Rebecca Douglas Photography

Every week over the next month or so I will be sharing with you our new feature series; Supplier Spot Light. Showcasing some of our favorite suppliers that we have had the pleasure of working with that are going let you in behind the scenes of what goes on in their world and share with you some useful information and tips which may come in handy when planning for your big day. First up we have Rebecca Douglas Photography, I have had the pleasure of working with Rebecca on a number of shoots and this year we shall also be working together on some real weddings which I am very excited about!  Not only is Rebecca extremely talented (her photos below speak for themselves) but she is also one of the loveliest people I know! Without further ado I shall pass you over to Rebecca….

So, tell us a bit about yourself?

Hello there, I’m Rebecca and I live in Ashford, Kent with my husband Mark (an über maths geek) and our cute cat Misu (if you’re wondering, his name derived from my favourite pudding Tiramisu). What totally makes me tick is telling a story and this starts by putting my couples at the heart of what I do, hearing about their dreams for their big day and how they would like my photography to be shaped around that. You could say this is my mission to capture couples being themselves having the best day of their lives.

When you’re working with a couple how do you help them to refine their ideas and consult on what they’d like?

I love capturing love. It is a total treat to work with folk to create elegant, soft, natural images with a creative twist. Photos are so important, the still frames that are our connection to our past and our legacy for the future. When I meet or Skype with a couple, I’ll spend time chatting and understanding how they want their day to feel and how my photography can fit around that. I am lucky to work with lots of creative couples who trust me and so together we can work on some really unique images to tell the story of their day.

What is your favourite time of year to shoot weddings?

I love capturing weddings all year around and working with the seasons. I did Geography at uni back in the day and I am fascinated by the connections between people and place and so this is something I always think about when I am shooting. We can get the most stunning natural light all year round and if the weather takes a turn, I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve to create some magic rain. I think it is really important to have confidence in your photographer that no matter what Mother Nature throws at you, you’ll get some truly special images.

What do you think are the hot trends for weddings this year?

I think we’re going to see an explosion of colour coming through this year with corals, teals, purples with a stylish twist of neon and glitter. I know there is always discussion about ‘vintage weddings’ but I think you will always see couples incorporation their heritage, hobbies and interests into their wedding. After all, they are a very nostalgic tradition and a milestone in a couple’s journey through life so I think we will see this feel continue to be expressed at weddings for years to come.
